I'm having a problem with setting 1680x1050 res on external monitor with latest 8.02 drivers. Not sure what is the displayed resolution, but it certainly is not 1680.
Using thinkpad t60 with 1400x1050 on built in lcd. Is this possible with this release at all?

as far as I'm concerned, ATI drivers stopped working since 7.12 (=8.44) from December 2007. The latest version 8.01 (=8.45) from Jan 2008 doesn't work either. When I start Compiz Fusion I get a black screen with these two releases, in AIGLX as well as in XGL. So the last version that worked for me was 7.11 (=8.43) from November 2007. And I got an ATI 9800 Pro 256 MB running in PCLinuxOS (KDE 3.58, Linux kernel 2.6.22.15).I read in forums that other guys had the issue too, don't know what they changed at ATI in their last two releases, don't know how they tested it.

About video, yes the prob is still there .... sad. Before watching I have to switch off compositing, though with KDE4 Desktop Effects settings manager it is a quick one.

Currently I am running KDE4 KDwin compositing (Desktop effects) with this 8.01 driver, using AIGLX, and being frank the performance (fps) is not that great.

1. Have you tried KDE4 Desktop Effects with Xgl (is the support there with this driver)?
2. Which are the best settings to have enabled/disabled under Desktop Settings

Any tips you can give on this issue.
